MOSCOW, Dec 9 - RIA Novosti. Russia is fending off potential threats in the aerospace sphere by improving the combat potential of the Aerospace Forces (VKS), Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov said at a briefing to military attaches of foreign states on Thursday.
"In order to increase the capabilities of aerospace defense for timely detection and warning of a missile attack, another spacecraft of the Unified Space System has been put into orbit. The construction of radar stations of the over-the-horizon detection of aerial targets continues, allowing to control the airspace at a distance of up to two thousand kilometers from our border," Gerasimov said.
According to him, the formations and military units of the VKS are equipped with modern and modernized aviation equipment, anti-aircraft missile systems, radar stations and complexes for various purposes.
"Priority is given to such weapons as the Su-57, Su-35S and Su-34, as well as the S-400, S-350 and Pantsir-S anti-aircraft missile systems," the Chief of the General Staff said.
"Unmanned aviation has been further developed. The troops have been equipped with new reconnaissance and strike complexes with unmanned aerial vehicles that have been successfully tested in combat operations on the territory of Syria. The capabilities for conducting electronic warfare, high-precision strikes, increasing the range and duration of flight are also expanding," Gerasimov said.
