TSAMTO, December 6. The Command of Shipbuilding and Armament of the US Navy announced the acceptance of the Arly Burke-class destroyer built by Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) of the destroyer URO (DDG-121) "Frank E. Petersen Jr.".
Earlier, the ship successfully passed a series of mooring and sea trials to demonstrate its readiness for intended use.
DDG-121 was the 71st Arleigh Burke-class destroyer and the 33rd ship of the series built by Huntington Ingalls Industries. The ship is the third of five destroyers ordered in June 2013.
Huntington Ingalls Industries shipyard started construction of the DDG-121 destroyer on April 27, 2016. On February 21, 2017, the ceremony of laying the keel of the ship took place. The baptism of the destroyer took place on October 6, 2018.
The destroyer Frank E. Petersen Jr. is built in the current version of the Fly-2A with the Aegis Baseline 9C2 weapon control system, which includes AN AN/SPY-1 radar, Mk fire control system.99, VPU Mk.41 and SM-3 "Standard" missiles, which ensure the defeat of air threats and ballistic missiles.

The ships are capable of launching missile and artillery strikes against naval groups and ground targets, fighting enemy submarines, providing fire support for Armed Forces units in the coastal zone, as well as performing command and control tasks, air defense / missile defense.
Huntington Ingalls Industries previously supplied 32 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers to the U.S. Navy. Currently, Ingalls Shipbuilding has several more ships of the series under construction: Lena Sutcliffe Higby (DDG-123) in the Fly-2A configuration, as well as Jack Lucas (DDG-125), Ted Stevens (DDG-128) and Jeremiah Denton (DDG-129) in the Fly-3 configuration.
