In the USA, they tried to determine the winner in a hypothetical confrontation between the Russian T-90M tank and the American M1A2 Abrams SEP v3.
The National Interest writes that, in general, the functionality of the T-90M corresponds to Western analogues. The Russian tank has a panoramic commander's sight, and the gunner has a multi-channel "Pine-U". Also, the T-90M has a modern dynamic protection system "Relict", which is complemented by anti-cumulative protection under the tower and in the rear of the car. In the future, the T-90M, as reported, can be used to actively protect the "Afghanit"
The T-90M has an improved modification of the 2A46 cannon and a 12.7 mm machine gun. The National Interest notes that due to the installation of air conditioning and new controls, the T-90M has become a fairly comfortable tank for the crew.
The M1A2 SEP v3 also had improved armor and thermal imaging devices installed on the commander and gunner's sight. However, the Abrams gun has not undergone significant changes. But the arsenal of the tank was replenished with HE MPAT and M829A4 APFSDS shells.
Communication systems have been improved in both Russian and American tanks.
The advantage of the T-90M is the ability to fire anti-tank guided missiles. In addition, the Russian tank weighs less than its American competitor, which means it will be more mobile on the battlefield. But, according to the author of the publication, the M1A2 equipment will allow the Abrams crew to detect the enemy earlier. The accuracy of shooting and the ability to penetrate enemy armor will be approximately the same.
After weighing the advantages and disadvantages of tanks, The National Interest comes to the conclusion that in the confrontation of machines, victory will depend on the level of training of their crews.
