TSAMTO, December 2. The program of sea trials of the main universal nuclear icebreaker project 22220 "Arctic", built at the Baltic Plant (part of the USC), has been completed.
For the last five months, the vessel has been undergoing warranty repairs, during which work was carried out to replace the starboard propeller motor, audit the propeller steering system, bottom-side fittings and painting the hull of the vessel.
During the factory sea trials held in the waters of the Gulf of Finland, the vessel fully confirmed compliance with the design characteristics. In the near future, the nuclear-powered vessel will begin its main duties - conducting ships along the Northern Sea Route.
The universal nuclear icebreaker "Arctic" is the lead vessel of the project 22220. The nuclear-powered vessels of this project are the largest and most powerful icebreaking vessels in the world. Their main task is to ensure year-round navigation in the Arctic. In the coming years, the icebreakers of project 22220 should become the basis of the civil icebreaking fleet of Russia.
