MOSCOW, December 1. /tass/. The enterprises of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) handed over four warships to the Navy this year, half of the orders were completed ahead of schedule, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said.
"In 2021, four ships and one vessel were transferred to the navy," the minister said at a conference call on Wednesday. In particular, he noted that the combat strength of the Northern Fleet was replenished with the lead nuclear submarine "Kazan", on which the flag was solemnly raised on May 7.
"The construction of the large diesel submarine Magadan and the base minesweeper Georgy Kurbatov has been completed ahead of schedule," Shoigu said.
According to him, USC specialists carry out a complex of works in the interests of the Russian Navy "as part of the implementation of the presidential decree on equipping the Armed Forces with modern weapons and military equipment."
"The implementation by the United Shipbuilding Corporation of state contracts for the maintenance of ships allowed the Navy to successfully complete its tasks. At the same time, there are issues on a number of tasks that we will discuss today," the minister said, opening the meeting.
Expectations for December
The Russian Navy is expected to receive the first serial nuclear submarines "Prince Oleg" of project 955A (code "Borey-A") and "Novosibirsk" of project 885M (code "Yasen-M") by the end of 2021, Shoigu said.
"In December, it is planned to transfer the first serial nuclear cruisers Prince Oleg and Novosibirsk," he said.
Currently, the Russian Navy has four submarines of projects 955 and 955A in combat. Each of the ships carries 16 intercontinental ballistic missiles "Bulava". Sevmash is also building six submarines of the 885M project.
