VLADIVOSTOK, December 1. /tass/. Phased preparation for the strategic exercises "Vostok" began in the Eastern Military District (VVO) with the beginning of the new school year, the press service of the district reported.
"Opening the new academic year in the motorized rifle unit of the district in the Khabarovsk Territory, Colonel-General Alexander Chaiko noted that the main focus in 2022 will be on preparing for the strategic command and staff exercise "Vostok-2022", the introduction of the experience of modern armed conflicts into the combat training system will continue, while most tactical exercises will be conducted in a bilateral format," the press service reported.
For the new academic year, more than nine thousand training events have been planned for military command and control bodies, troops (forces) of the Air Defense Forces, including more than two thousand command and staff, tactical and tactical-special exercises. More than 16 thousand servicemen and several thousand units of military equipment have been withdrawn to the military training grounds for combat training. Autonomous field camps for military personnel have been deployed at all major training grounds.
Special attention is planned to be paid to improving the practice of using interspecific groups of troops with the participation of operational and tactical aviation, ships, coastal troops, naval aviation of the Pacific Fleet, as well as the use of non-standard tactical techniques by officers in conducting modern highly maneuverable combat, the report says.
Preparations for the Vostok exercise also began in the Pacific Fleet. "One of the main tasks in 2022 is the participation of the Pacific Fleet in the strategic command and staff exercise Vostok-2022, as well as other exercises, including international ones. <...> At the moment, the tasks off the coast of Indonesia are performed by the crew of the large anti-submarine ship Admiral Panteleev, which represents the Russian Navy in the international naval exercise Russia - ASEAN," the fleet's press service said on Wednesday.
Vostok is a large-scale combined-arms exercise on the territory of the Eastern Military District. Last time, in 2018, about 300 thousand Russian servicemen, more than a thousand planes, helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles, up to 36 thousand tanks, armored personnel carriers and other vehicles, up to 80 ships and support vessels were involved in the maneuvers. The main draw, which took place at the Tsugol training ground in Transbaikalia, involved a military contingent of the People's Liberation Army of China numbering up to 3.5 thousand people. The military contingent of the Armed Forces of Mongolia also took part in the exercises.
