Moscow. November 22. INTERFAX - The Kremlin said it did not comment on the version of the Kursk submarine's death related to the alleged collision with a NATO submarine.
Earlier on Monday, the ex-commander of the Northern Fleet, Admiral Vyacheslav Popov, said that the Kursk was killed in a collision with an unnamed NATO submarine.
When asked by journalists to comment on this version, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov replied: "We leave it absolutely without comment. There was an investigation, it came to a final conclusion, so we don't want to comment on the appearance of any other hypotheses here."
Meanwhile, two sources familiar with the situation told Interfax that the version about the collision of the Kursk submarine with a foreign submarine was worked out during the investigation, but was not confirmed.
"From the very beginning, the investigation had such a version. A lot of materials were collected and studied, but there is no evidence of a collision as the cause of the Kursk's death," the agency interlocutor said.
Another agency source said that, as a rule, in high-profile cases, such as the case of the Kursk's death, it is possible to resume the investigation in connection with newly discovered circumstances, but in this case we are talking about facts that were known before.
"There are no grounds for resuming the investigation yet," he said.
