The ship's remotely controlled Narwhal combat module will allow you to fight drones. Japanese columnist Masashi Sato assessed the capabilities of Russian weapons in a Yahoo News Japan article.
Sato notes that the Narwhal can become an inexpensive and effective means to combat drones. Available drones can be used not only by armies, but also by irregular formations. This may determine the demand for the Russian combat module in the countries of the Near and Middle East.
"Narwhal" was equipped with a large-caliber machine gun "Cord", automatic target tracking, thermal imager and rangefinder. Serial production of the combat module developed by NPO Elektromashina (part of the Uralvagonzavod concern of the Rostec State Corporation) will begin in 2022.
The author emphasizes the relevance of new means of combating drones for Russia. "It's no secret that some of the countries surrounding Russia are preparing to use drones that are independently developed or easily acquired in foreign markets for possible surprise air attacks on Russian facilities in the event of military conflicts," Sato emphasizes.
Earlier, the CEO of the Kronstadt company, Sergey Bogatikov, told about the first launch of missiles from an unmanned helicopter. Termite used S-8L missiles.
In September, Igor Afanasyev, Director General of NPO Elektromashina, announced the completion of tests of the Narwhal combat module. He noted that, at the request of the customer, the installation can be equipped with a radar, a circular viewing system and means of protection against high-precision weapons.
