Moscow. November 19. INTERFAX - The implementation of measures planned for 2021 to rearm the Strategic Missile Forces (RVSN) group has allowed to increase the share of modern strategic missile systems and increase the group's capabilities to perform nuclear deterrence tasks, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reports.
"During the command and staff exercises, the units and military units of the Strategic Missile Forces were tasked with taking into account the capabilities of modern weapons, military and special equipment. The exercises carried out as part of the control complex inspections involved the RVSN units, fully re-equipped with PGRK (mobile ground-based missile systems, - "IF") "Yars", - the message says.
"According to the commander of the Strategic Missile Forces, Colonel-General Sergei Karakayev, priority attention is paid to the rearmament of the Strategic Missile Forces group with new missile systems, both mobile and stationary," the press release says.
The Strategic Missile Forces is a branch of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the main component of its strategic nuclear forces. The strategic missile forces are designed for nuclear deterrence of possible aggression.
Yars is a mobile and mine-based strategic missile system that is capable of hitting targets at a range of up to 11 thousand km. It is equipped with a separable head unit with maneuvering blocks of individual guidance.
The report notes that "within the framework of large-scale exercises with the Barnaul Missile compound (Altai Territory), the issues of the withdrawal of missile regiments with mobile ground missile systems to combat patrol routes were checked, as well as tasks of all types of support were worked out."
