An American-made F-16 interceptor fighter crashed during takeoff from Andravida Air Base, where the 117th Aviation Wing of the Greek Air Force is based. The incident occurred in the north-west of the Peloponnese peninsula.
According to TASS, the plane crash occurred during training flights.
The plane crashed on takeoff from the airfield, and the pilot ejected. According to preliminary information, his condition is good. An investigation is underway into the crash.
It should be noted that this is not the first incident with F-16 fighters in Greece. In November 2016, when landing at the Akrotiri military airfield in Crete, a fighter of this class caught fire. Despite the burns, the pilot was able to land the plane safely.
The cause of the fire was a fuel leak, and the pilot with minor burns was hospitalized.
