TSAMTO, November 16. On November 16, the first serial nuclear icebreaker of the project 22220 "Siberia" left the completed embankment of the Baltic Plant (part of the USC) and headed for the Gulf of Finland, where the program of factory sea trials will begin.
In the next three weeks, the delivery team of the Baltic Plant, together with representatives of counterparty organizations, will check the operation of the icebreaker's mechanisms and equipment. Specialists are planning to conduct a complex of tests, including checking the operation of the steam turbine unit, the ship's electric propulsion systems, shaft lines and deck mechanisms (anchor and steering devices). The speed and maneuverability characteristics of the icebreaker, the functioning of ship-wide systems and automation systems will be tested. In addition, an important stage of sea trials will be the verification of navigation and communication systems, as well as the operation of the helicopter complex.
The universal nuclear icebreaker Siberia is the second vessel of the project 22220, which is being built at the Baltic Plant. The ceremony of its laying took place on May 26, 2015. The launch took place on September 22, 2017. It is expected that the vessel will be handed over to the customer by the end of this year.
The universal nuclear icebreakers of Project 22220 are the largest and most powerful icebreaking vessels in the world. Their main task is to ensure year-round navigation in the western Arctic region. The vessels of this project in the coming years should become the basis of the civil icebreaking fleet of Russia.
