Moscow. November 15th. INTERFAX - The military towed the historic submarine of Project 633 S-49 to a museum with a submarine harbor hidden in a rock in Balaklava Bay in Crimea, the Russian Defense Ministry told reporters on Monday.
"The diesel submarine of Project 633 was delivered from Sevastopol to Balaklava Bay. It will take pride of place in the dry dock as a museum exhibit, which was reconstructed and prepared in advance by military builders," the ministry noted.
According to the Ministry, previously the sailors of the Black Sea Fleet conducted a trial transportation of a fully museum-equipped and therefore unguided submarine: two tugs delivered it from the stocks of the Sevastopol Marine Plant to the Southern Bay. Then, having received a favorable weather forecast, the submarine was taken out of Sevastopol harbor and towed to Balaklava Bay.
By May 9, 2021, specialists of the military construction complex of the Ministry of Defense completed the first stage of restoration and renovation of the museum complex. Now the exposition of the anti-nuclear underground base in the thickness of the rock in Balaklava (once a top secret facility for hiding and repairing submarines) is supplemented with multimedia technologies, light, sound and decorative solutions, as well as original installations using authentic exhibits and artifacts.
