The Syrian Golan-1000 still remains one of the world's most powerful multiple launch rocket systems on a tank chassis.
The first demonstration took place at the end of spring 2018 at one of the bases of the fourth armored division of the government army.
It was the specialists of this elite unit, who have extensive experience in the development and modernization of various models of wheeled and tracked military equipment, who were engaged in the creation of this largely unique assault vehicle, nicknamed the "rocket monster" in the media.
It is believed that the platform for the MLRS was a long-time running simulator used in one of the brigades to train mechanics-drivers of T-72 main battle tanks. A deckhouse with a model of a 125-mm gun was dismantled from it and a rotating launcher with three guides was installed to launch 500-mm rocket shells weighing up to 500 kg with high-explosive warheads.
There is still no exact data on the range of these munitions. It was believed that they were unlikely to be able to hit more than 1,500 meters, then they began to write about the possibility of hitting the enemy at distances up to 3,000 meters, now some sources are already reporting 12,000 meters.
Military experts doubt such possibilities. Firstly, the accuracy at large distances will be very small. Secondly, the Golan-1000 was created specifically for the destruction of objects located in the line of sight.
The weight of the machine is 44,000 kg. The engine power is 780 hp. The maximum speed on the highway is 60 km/h.
The first use took place only in December 2018, it is believed that there were some problems with the production of high-quality ammunition. The combat debut confirmed the high characteristics of the installation - the positions of the militants were literally swept away.
It is not known how many such machines have been manufactured, there are different opinions on this.
Now this "assault tank" is not used in battles, but if necessary, it can be quickly transferred to the area of the counter-terrorist operation.
