The smoke screen installed by Russia in the port of the Syrian city of Tartus was shown from space. The corresponding satellite images of Maxar Technologies published The Drive.
"Recent satellite images of the Syrian port of Tartus seem to show attempts to create a large smoke screen to hide the Russian strategic naval base. According to reports, Russian troops have carried out similar actions at this facility at least once in the past," the publication says.

The publication emphasizes that the use of smoke screens interferes with the operation of electro-optical cameras and some infrared sensors of drones and missiles. On the other hand, as The Drive notes, the multispectral cameras installed on American RQ-4 Global Hawk drones are adapted to work in such conditions.
Nevertheless, the publication is confident that the use of smoke screens still makes sense.
In October, Rossiyskaya Gazeta drew attention to a video demonstrating the operation of a thermal imaging tank sight in smoke conditions.
