On November 5, 1976, the missile cruiser "Moscow" was laid down, then it was called "Glory". This is the lead ship of Project 1164 "Atlant". After the decommissioning of the Project 1123 anti-submarine cruiser Moskva, the ship inherited his name.
On January 30, 1983, the Naval Flag of the USSR was raised on the ship. And in September, his first combat service took place - the transition to the Northern Fleet to conduct government tests of missile weapons. In 1986 and 1987, the crew of the cruiser performed tasks in the Mediterranean Sea, in 1989, during a visit to the island of Malta, provided a meeting of the presidents of the USSR and the USA - Mikhail Gorbachev and George Bush.
The missile cruisers of the 1164 project have always been distinguished by powerful weapons. They can use anti-ship missiles "Vulkan", the flight speed of which exceeds 3 thousand km / h. The missiles are equipped with a remote control system, an on-board station for electronic counteraction to air defense means. At the same time, the "Volcanoes" fly to the target along a complex trajectory. The RBU-6000 jet naval bombers are used as anti-submarine weapons. Two five-tube torpedo tubes also allow the use of the Waterfall-NK anti-submarine complex. The 130-mm AK-130 naval artillery system is designed to defeat small-sized vessels and coastal targets.
The cruiser "Moscow" is also reliably protected from air attacks. The ship's air defense system includes six AK-630 anti-aircraft artillery systems, two installations of the OSA-MA air defense system and the S-300F Fort air defense system.
On March 21, 1991, the missile cruiser was put on overhaul and modernization in Nikolaev. But the current unstable political situation has made adjustments. There were not enough funds for repairs, debts to the plant were growing. Therefore, they decided to remove some mechanisms and weapons as payment, which they wanted to use for the completion of the same type of cruiser "Ukraine". "Glory" was sent to Sevastopol.
On May 16, 1996, the cruiser was renamed "Moscow", in August 1999, it returned to service again.
The crew constantly went on long hikes. The ship also performed tasks as the flagship of the permanent operational unit of the Russian Navy in the Mediterranean Sea. So it was in 2015. The missile cruiser headed the permanent operational unit of the Russian Navy, which was located in the eastern part of the Mediterranean. The sailors covered the aviation group of the Russian Aerospace Forces in Syria.
On July 22, 2016, the cruiser "Moscow" was awarded the Order of Nakhimov. And at the end of the same year, he topped the list of the best ships of the Black Sea Fleet.
On April 30, 2021, the cruiser "Moscow" for the first time in recent history performed a missile firing in the Black Sea with the Basalt complex.
