Fighters of one of the units of the People's Militia of Donbass modified the captured Ukrainian T-64BV. According to the project of the Rossiyskaya Gazeta "Russian Weapons", the main battle tank was equipped with two special searchlights, nicknamed "red eyes".
These devices made by local craftsmen, which are analogous to modern optoelectronic suppression systems (COEP), are mounted on a tower on both sides of a 125 mm smoothbore gun. Their purpose is to disrupt the guidance of anti-tank guided missiles.
The first COEP tanks were seen back in 1991, during Operation Desert Storm. These products are supposed to be Chinese-made and installed on Iraqi T-72M1. True, they were imperfect and could not really help avoid defeat by American precision-guided munitions.
In Russia, in turn, a complex of optoelectronic suppression "Curtain" was created, which can actually neutralize enemy ATGM, laser-guided projectiles. How efficient this Donbass development is can only be shown by real military actions.
