The Russian army is armed with more than 2 thousand unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This was announced on Tuesday, November 2, by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with the leadership of the Ministry of Defense and representatives of the defense industry.

He also pointed out the need to develop unmanned aircraft.

"Now we have more than 2 thousand unmanned aerial vehicles in service. We need to continue working on them, working as hard as it has been lately. I am referring, among other things, to the use of artificial intelligence and the most modern achievements of technology and science," the Russian leader stressed.

According to him, the Russian military is able to effectively repel drone attacks. The Head of State also stressed that in recent years, unmanned aircraft has proven itself well.

"We know very well how it has proven itself in the armed conflicts of recent years, how effective it is and how dangerous it can be for us, bearing in mind what we have observed in Syria — terrorist attacks using unmanned vehicles," he added.

At the end of September, sources in the Ministry of Defense told Izvestia that the Russian Navy would receive a kamikaze UAV. Drones are planned to be used for strikes against sea and land targets. In particular, such products are effective against light boats and motorboats. As military expert Dmitry Boltenkov is convinced, such UAVs will increase the combat power of Russian ships, marines and special forces units.

In the same month, the Russian leader noted the uniqueness of Russian weapons and military equipment. He also stressed that many samples of Russian weapons have no alternatives in the world.

According to the head of state, the Russian Armed Forces and the military-industrial complex are developing taking into account the achievements of science and fundamental research, including artificial intelligence and robotics. In this regard, he expressed hope for the interest of Western partners in Russian weapons

In August, the head of the air assets project group of the Advanced Research Foundation, Yan Chibisov, said that complexes of reconnaissance drones and cycloplane platforms could appear on Russian warships. According to him, the foundation has proposed a complex of two devices, where the first is a cyclolet, which provides the ascent and descent of a reconnaissance drone to the ship, and the second is the drone itself of a long flight duration.
