The Russian tank "Object 195", which is also known as the T-95, could become one of the best combat vehicles in the world. In the USA, they remembered the predecessor of the T-14 Armata. Charlie Gao wrote for 19FortyFive about the advantages of Russian development.
The author notes that the development of the tank "Object 195" began in 1988 as part of the development work "Improvement-88". The designers planned to create a machine that could surpass any NATO tank in terms of security and firepower.
To increase survivability, Soviet designers chose a carriage layout with an uninhabited tower. Also, the combined armor with dynamic protection and a complex of active protection increased the security. The T-95 received an early version of the dynamic protection "Relict", which is installed on modern Russian tanks.
The main gun of the tank "Object 195" was a smoothbore gun 2A83 caliber 152 mm. This allowed the use of artillery shells, including nuclear ammunition. The main gun was complemented by a twin gun 2A42 caliber 30 millimeters. The T-95 also received a modern sighting system. The radar sight could allow the tank to hit targets in interference conditions.
"Judging by all the above characteristics, the T-95 looks like a much more powerful tank than the T-14. The T-14 has less powerful main and additional weapons, has fewer sighting systems and has similar armor," Gao concluded.
The author suggested that the capabilities of the T-14 equipment exceed the characteristics of the instruments of the tank "Object 195". In his opinion, Armata will be able to effectively counteract high-precision weapons.
In October, it was reported that the state tests of the T-14 tank on the Armata platform are scheduled to be completed in 2022.
