German astronaut Matthias Maurer will travel to the International Space Station (ISS) on November 3 on a SpaceX spacecraft as part of the NASA program. A few months after his arrival, he decided to throw a party with his colleagues. Maurer shared the details of the event in an interview with Deutsche Welle .
The celebration will be dedicated to several events: on March 18, Mauer will celebrate his 52nd birthday, on this day the Russian Soyuz spacecraft will arrive at the ISS, and one of the American cosmonauts will set a record for staying in orbit. "So these days we will have three good reasons to celebrate. Let's see what's up there to throw a party. Maybe loud music and soft drinks, and everything else is our improvisation," said Mauer.
The astronaut will also take Christmas gifts with him for colleagues. He expects to get a little surprise for his birthday. However, most of all he would have liked the cherry cake, which is traditional for the German Black Forest region. "But I don't think he's going to be there," Mauer joked.
Earlier, the American edition of SpaceNews called the date when the Russian cosmonaut will be able to fly for the first time on the US SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft to the International Space Station. According to assumptions, this could happen in the second half of 2022.
