The former commander of the submarine missile carrier, captain of the first rank Igor Kurdin on Wednesday, October 27, in an interview with Izvestia, appreciated the statement that the Russian Pacific Fleet will receive four new submarines.
"Russia has two fleets — the Northern and the Pacific, they have nuclear-powered strategic submarines in their composition. In the 1990s, the balance between them was disrupted, and new ships stopped arriving in the Pacific Ocean. But in recent years, the situation has been recovering. It is very important for the country's security that the new strategic missile carriers are evenly distributed between the two fleets," the expert noted.
He also pointed out that the upgraded Borey-A submarines are replacing obsolete ships. In addition, I am glad that in addition to nuclear-powered submarines, the Pacific Fleet will receive Yasen-M submarines, Kurdin added.
"These are multi-purpose submarines that solve a number of important tasks - they accompany and guard missile submarines, scout the situation, detect enemy submarines, if necessary, they can strike both submarines and surface ships," he explained.
Earlier in the day, the Chief of Staff of the submarine forces of the Pacific Fleet, Rear Admiral Arkady Navarsky, announced that in the coming years the fleet will receive two nuclear submarines of Project 955 "Borey-A" and two of project 885M "Yasen-M".
According to him, the updated cruisers of project 955 "Borey-A", which will arrive at the base, are carriers of solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missiles R-30 "Bulava". These cruisers ("Borei-A") are a variation of the modernization of boats of this project. They are equipped with the most modern types of weapons, as well as improved surveillance systems and the use of weapons.
As Navarsky noted, the berthing infrastructure of the Pacific Fleet submarine deployment point in Kamchatka is already ready to receive new nuclear submarines.
