The modernization of the Russian Navy (Navy) was worried in the United States. Columnist of the 19FortyFive edition Stavros Atlamazoglou noted the increased capabilities of Russian ships.
According to the Intelligence Department of the US Department of Defense, the Russian Navy is increasing not only the numerical strength of the fleet, but also expanding the strike capabilities of ships. The publication notes that the Russian fleet includes destroyers, frigates and cruisers. These ships are complemented by 70 submarines and a large number of corvettes, minesweepers and patrol boats.
The author emphasizes that the average age of Russian ships is 25 years, which necessitates modernization. According to him, the upgraded ships will be able to remain in service for another 40 years.
According to Atlamazoglu, the age of the Russian ships can compensate for their armament. He recalled that Russian cargo ships can carry the Kalibr-K container missile system with cruise missiles. This will make it possible to oppose a large number of small vessels with subsonic and hypersonic missiles to modern warships.
"Despite its shortcomings and problems, the Russian Navy is still a significant force and may prove to be a serious threat to the United States in the event of a conflict," Atlamazoglu concluded.
Earlier, Viktor Kot, a member of the Board of Directors of Yugreftransflot, spoke about the possibility of installing the Kalibr-K mobile complex on a dual-purpose transport refrigerator of the Ivan Papanin type. The elements of the complex are made in the form of a standard cargo container.
