The BDK of the 11711 project is capable of receiving hundreds of sea mines, depending on their purpose, a TASS source in the shipbuilding industry stressed
MOSCOW, October 25. /tass/. The large amphibious assault ship (BDK) of project 11711, if used as a minelayer, is capable of "closing" not only any strait zone, but also the entire sea area. This was reported to TASS by a source in the shipbuilding industry.
"Taking into account the capabilities and dimensions of the BDK project 11711 is able to accept hundreds of sea mines, depending on their purpose. This amount is enough to block not only any strait zone, but also vast sea areas," he said.
TASS has no official confirmation of this information.
Earlier, the possibility of using the BDK of this series for setting minefields through the aft ramp was reported in the program "Military Acceptance" on the TV channel "Zvezda".
According to a TASS source, all BDK of the previous generation have the ability to be used as minelayers. Currently, there are two "paratroopers" of Project 11711 in the combat composition of the Russian Navy (Navy) - "Ivan Gren" and "Peter Morgunov". Two more ships of the modernized project "Cayman" - "Vladimir Andreev" and "Vasily Trushin" - are being built at the Baltic shipyard "Yantar" (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation). They will differ from the previous versions by increased operational capabilities and will form the basis of the updated amphibious forces of the Russian Navy.
The displacement of the BDK project 11711 is over 6 thousand tons. Each of them is capable of transporting up to 13 main battle tanks, or up to 36 armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles, or up to 30 vehicles, as well as a battalion of marines during the "paratrooper" mission.
