Russian coastal missile systems (DBK) "Bal" will receive a new missile. The new ammunition will double the firing range. This is reported by TASS with reference to a source in the military-industrial sector.
The firing range of the DBK "Bal" with the new missile has doubled. Also, the new ammunition allows you to hit not only sea, but also land targets. Currently, Bal uses X-35 missiles with a range of 120 kilometers and X-35U with a range of 260 kilometers.
"Tests conducted on one of the fleets of the new Bal missile confirmed that its flight range exceeded 500 km, and thanks to the new guidance system, it was able to hit targets on the ground," the source said.
The interlocutor of TASS stressed that the upgraded missile makes the characteristics of the Bal complex comparable to the Bastion DBK, which uses supersonic Onyx missiles.
In March, the Zvezda TV channel published footage of tests of the Bal missile complex in an anechoic chamber. With the help of radiating horns, the developers worked out aiming the missile at the target.
In December 2020, the Izvestia newspaper, citing sources in the Ministry of Defense, reported on the formation of a coast guard brigade on Sakhalin. The unit received the "Bal" and "Bastion" complexes, which will protect the coast from amphibious landings and ships with cruise missiles.
