The program for the development of the auxiliary fleet of Russia until 2033 provides for the construction of new ships. To supply the garrisons in the Far North, it is planned to build five icebreakers and universal vessels. This is reported by TASS with reference to the deputy chief of staff of logistics of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Andrey Yefimov.
During the round table in the Federation Council, Yefimov noted that the construction of five icebreakers and three universal transport vessels is envisaged within the framework of the development program of the auxiliary fleet of Russia. According to him, the new ships will expand the capabilities of the fleet to supply the regions of the Far North.
In 2022, the icebreaker Evpatiy Kolovrat is planned to be accepted into the Navy (Navy). The vessel is being built according to the upgraded 21180M project. The new icebreakers differ from the vessels of project 21180 in reduced size and draft. This will allow the use of icebreakers in shallow waters. The ships will also be equipped with the Bay-LK-21180 automated control system.
Yefimov stressed that through the Northern Sea Route, ships deliver up to half of the cargo for the needs of the military in the Far North. Therefore, in 2017, the Russian Navy's auxiliary fleet included the diesel-electric icebreaker Ilya Muromets and two logistics vessels Elbrus, which can go through a layer of ice up to 80 centimeters thick.
Earlier it became known that the Russian corvettes of the project 20380 of the "Guardian" type are being modernized. It was clarified that the ships will receive new radars and improved air defense systems.
