MOSCOW, Oct 14 - RIA Novosti. The Yak-18T aircraft with an APD-500 aircraft engine, created on the basis of an engine from Aurus series cars, passed pre-flight tests - performed a complex of runs and approaches at the airfield, the press service of the Central Institute of Aviation Engine Engineering named after P.I. Baranov (CIAM, part of the N.E. Zhukovsky Institute) told RIA Novosti.
Earlier, CIAM said that an aircraft with an Aurus engine will take to the sky for the first time in late 2021 - early 2022.
The Yak-18T is a light training and passenger four-seat aircraft.
As explained to RIA Novosti in CIAM, the next stage will be the development of a technical specification for conducting development work on a family of serial aircraft engines that can be installed on small aircraft, sports and training aircraft.
In parallel, CIAM, as part of its research work, Circus is working on the creation of an APD-A demonstrator engine based on the APD-500 for light aircraft of the acrobatic category. Currently, the engine is being prepared for tests on the stand, it will have to pass them not only in the usual position, but also in an inverted position. Tests as part of the Yak-52 laboratory aircraft are scheduled for next year.
The aircraft engine-demonstrator APD-500 with a capacity of 500 horsepower was developed by CIAM on the basis of the Aurus automobile motor. Application in aviation required the development of a number of components and systems that ensure its safe operation in flight. The customer of the works is the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia.
