The navy conducted exercises in the Gulf of Guinea of the Atlantic Ocean near the coast of the African continent, where they freed a ship "captured by pirates". The crews of the large anti-submarine ship "Vice Admiral Kulakov", the medium sea tanker "Academician Pashin" and the rescue tugboat "Altai" took part in the exercise. They are currently on a long hike.
The press service of the Northern Fleet told about the nuances of the exercise. According to the plot, conditional pirates seized a tanker, but the crew managed to hide in the engine room, from where they sent a distress signal. "Vice Admiral Kulakov" went to help. At first, the sailors tried to negotiate, but they did not have positive results. And then they decided to take the ship by storm.
Fire support for the large anti-submarine ship was provided by a Ka-27PS deck helicopter with marines on board. They landed troops on two high-speed boats. Having boarded, the Marines neutralized the "pirates" and freed the crew.
"RG" has already written that the detachment of the Northern Fleet ensures the safety of navigation in the Gulf of Guinea. The sailors went on a long voyage on June 28. And we have already passed more than 19 thousand nautical miles.
