For the first time, Russian sailors used reconnaissance drones from aboard the ship to control the hit of KALIBR cruise missiles during exercises. On the air of Sputnik radio, military expert Dmitry Kornev commented on the naval use of drones.

For the first time, Russian sailors used a non-standard method of objective control of hitting coastal targets by UAV calculations, the press service of the Southern Military District told reporters.

According to RIA Novosti, the crew of the small rocket ship "Veliky Ustyug" conducted training firing with the use of the Kalibr missile system. Reconnaissance drones were used to control the missiles hitting the target.

"For the first time, the servicemen used a non-standard method of objective control of the destruction of coastal targets by the calculations of the Orlan-10 and aIleron-3 UAVs, launching drones from the flagship of the Dagestan missile ship flotilla," the district said.

On the air of Sputnik radio, the editor-in-chief of the site MilitaryRussia.ru Dmitry Kornev noted the need to use drones for military purposes.

"Drones provide the ability to monitor the location of targets, the impact of weapons on them. The security of surveillance is ensured. Unique angles of observation of the defeat of the target are provided. The use of drones makes it possible to get maximum information on the use of a particular weapon system. If we are talking about a combat situation, then with the help of drones it will be possible to obtain target designation in such situations when a person is not able to provide this," Dmitry Kornev said.

The use of drones from the ship is associated with a number of difficulties, but this is a promising direction, the expert continued.

"Since we know how to launch drones from a specific location and can then land them in the same place, it means we can use drones from ships. From submarines, we will probably also be able to use small-sized drones. This will significantly expand the field of optical detection, that is, what we can see with the help of television, possibly infrared technology. Since any modern military-purpose quadcopter can carry a fairly serious set of equipment that allows you to examine any objects to the smallest detail," the military expert noted.
