The universal amphibious helicopter carrier ship Mitrofan Moskalenko will become the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet. The location of the project 23900 ship is already being prepared in Sevastopol. This is reported by TASS with reference to the source.
Currently, the infrastructure for basing the ship is being prepared in the waters of the Sevastopol Bay. According to the source, the work should be completed by the arrival of the universal landing ship (UDC) "Mitrofan Moskalenko" in Sevastopol.
It is specified that the helicopter carrier will become the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet. The ship will take the place that was prepared for the second Mistral-class helicopter carrier.
The construction of helicopter carriers at the Zaliv shipyard in Kerch began in March. TASS wrote about the beginning of the formation of ship hulls.
The source of RIA Novosti also spoke about the advantages of the helicopter carriers of the 23900 project. According to him, ships of this type will be able to accommodate up to a thousand marines, and the dock chamber of the UDC is designed to base four landing boats.
In the same month, it became known about the possibility of the project 23900 ships to carry up to 16 helicopters on board. RIA Novosti reported that the UDC will be able to carry drones, Ka-27 anti-submarine helicopters and Ka-52K Alligator reconnaissance and strike helicopters.
