The Russian Defense Ministry plans to create a new association of the Navy - the Arctic Fleet. Its task will be to ensure the security of the Northern Sea Route and the Arctic region as a whole.
The problem of protecting our Arctic borders is becoming more acute every year. The Ministry of Defense is strengthening the cover of the Arctic region by commissioning military bases that have no analogues in the world and sending the most modern weapons there.
As it became known to the TASS news agency, the issue of creating a new structure to strengthen the protection of the Arctic is now being considered. It is planned to create a separate association as part of the Navy.
"The main task of the Arctic Fleet will be to ensure the security of the Northern Sea Route and the Arctic coast in the area of responsibility of the Northern and Pacific Fleets," the agency's source in the naval sphere said.
"It is assumed that the infrastructure for the functioning of the new association will be allocated from the Northern and Pacific Fleets. In the future, it will be replenished with ships and special equipment in the Arctic version," the source said.
According to experts, the creation of the Arctic association of the Navy will allow the Northern and Pacific Fleets to focus on solving combat tasks. The Arctic Fleet is a new association that will deal only with the Northern Sea Route. The new structure will report directly to the Ministry of Defense, which will make it possible to make decisions more quickly.
Now the Russian Navy includes the Baltic, Pacific, Black Sea fleets and the Caspian Flotilla. In addition, naval aviation, marines and coastal rocket and artillery troops are also involved in the structure of the Navy.
