It is not known how long it will take to test the Poseidon nuclear submarine system or its prototypes on board the submarine, since it has no analogues in the world. It will probably take two or three years. Military expert Dmitry Kornev told Izvestia about this on October 1.
Earlier on Friday, Mikhail Budnichenko, CEO of sEvmash, said that the carrier of the Poseidon unmanned underwater vehicles, the Belgorod nuclear submarine and the Novosibirsk and Knyaz Oleg nuclear submarines will complete state tests by the end of 2021. He also noted that the ships perform well at sea, confirming the characteristics.
"If you believe the Western press, which refers to satellite images, next year the tests of the Poseidon or its prototypes on board the boat can really begin. It is difficult to say how long it will take to work out a system that has no analogues in the world. I would bet that it will take 2-3 years," the expert said.
He also said that the Belgorod submarine was built on the basis of the project 949AM submarine, but the GRANIT anti-ship missile launchers were removed from this submarine. It is believed, although there is no accurate information, that launchers for the Poseidon complex — uninhabited underwater vehicles with a nuclear power plant that can carry a nuclear warhead - were installed on Belgorod instead.
According to Kornev, the submarine most likely passed the tests without the Poseidon.
On June 26, the Belgorod submarine entered the White Sea for the first time during tests. The submarine was launched on April 23, 2019. The ceremony in Severodvinsk was watched by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
