Exercises of the Strategic Missile Forces (RVSN) began on Tuesday in the Sverdlovsk region. The equipment involved in the exercises was evaluated in the United States. The advantages of the yArs missile systems determine their survivability, writes The National Interest.
The publication emphasizes that the current exercises are focused on testing the use of mobile ground-based missile systems (PGRK) RS-24 "yArs". The RS-24 solid-fuel rocket is a development of the Topol-M rocket. "yArs" can carry from three to six individual guidance units. The power of the missile's warheads reaches 500 kilotons.
Like the Topol-M, the yArs launchers are presented in a mine and mobile version. The author of the material notes that the Strategic Missile Forces pay increased attention to mobile weapons. Ground launch complexes are more difficult to track, detect and aim weapons at them. Mobile complexes are considered by the Russian military as a "relatively tenacious" reserve in case of a nuclear conflict, writes The National Interest.
The publication notes that yArs uses the MZKT-79221 chassis, which is the basis of the mobile launcher of the Topol-M complex. The deployment of the complex takes up to seven minutes.
Earlier it became known about plans to abandon the use of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) "Topol-M" in the Strategic Missile Forces. By 2024, it is planned to decommission all missiles of this type.
In April, a source in the military-industrial complex told TASS about the timing of the adoption of the promising cEdar missile. The new ICBM can replace mobile and stationary "YARS" in 2030.
