Flight design tests of the Zircon hypersonic missile from a surface carrier have been completed, TASS reports, citing a source close to the Russian Defense Ministry.
According to the interlocutor, the tests from the coastal stand and the Admiral Gorshkov frigate of project 22350 have been completed successfully. "More than ten launches have been carried out, the last of them in July," he said.
In August, it was reported that during the Army-2021 forum, the Russian Defense Ministry signed the first contract with the Scientific and Production Association (NGO) of Mechanical Engineering, involving the production of hypersonic Zircon missiles.
At the same time, Boris Obnosov, CEO of the Tactical Missile Armament Corporation (KTRV), said that hypersonic weapons could appear in the United States after 2023.
In the same month, the American magazine The National Interest wrote that the Zircon in operation is bad news for NATO.
