At the recent command and staff exercises at the Pesochnoye training ground in the Yaroslavl region, most of the latest armored vehicles that are in service with the Russian airborne troops were presented.
According to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the parachute battalion involved in this event fought with conditional opponents on BMD-4M and BTR-MDM "Shell".
Interestingly, some of the latter participated for the first time in training battles with "slingshots" installed on them - paired 23-mm ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft automatic guns. Previously, such air defense systems were used on the BTR-ZD "Screech".
The weight of the gun is 950 kg, the armored personnel carrier itself is more than 13200 kg. The rate of fire reaches up to 2000 rounds per minute. The flight altitude of the affected targets is 1500 meters. The range of application for ground objects is 2500 meters. A projectile weighing 190 grams easily hits enemy infantry fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers, cars.
The 500-horsepower diesel engine of the "Shell" is able to accelerate it up to 70 km/h on the highway and up to 45-50 km/h - on a dirt road. The speed when forcing water obstacles is 10 km/h.
Also, the BTR-RD "Robot" with controlled anti-tank complexes "Kornet" on board and 125-mm self-propelled anti-tank guns 2S25 "Octopus-SD" were involved in repelling the "enemy"offensive. As a result, the paratroopers hit all ground and air targets of the imaginary enemy.
