Russia is preparing to modernize the Missile Attack Warning System (SPRN). Three radar stations of the 77YA6 Voronezh series, which are part of the SPRN, are planned to be upgraded by 2028. This is reported by TASS with reference to the press service of the interstate joint-stock company (IAC) "Vimpel".
Representatives of the company noted that three stations will be modernized in 2025-2028. First of all, the stations will receive an improved power supply system and enhanced noise immunity.
Specialists will carry out work on the Voronezh-M radar in Lekhtusi (Leningrad Region) and Voronezh-DM in Armavir (Krasnodar Territory). Also, the plans for modernization include the Voronezh-M radar station in Usolye-Sibirsky (Irkutsk region).
Earlier, the head of the RTI Systems concern, Yuri Anoshko, spoke about the planned modernization of the Voronezh radar station. According to him, the station will be brought to the level of the new Yakhroma radar, which is characterized by better noise immunity with a smaller combat calculation.
In January, it became known about plans to build the Yakhroma radar station in the Chukchi Sea area by 2030. TASS, citing a source in the military-industrial complex, reported that the new station will operate in automatic mode.
The over-the-horizon radar 77YA6 "Voronezh" is designed to detect space and aerodynamic objects. The 77YA6 line includes stations in the meter, decimeter and centimeter range. This allows you to combine a high detection range with the accuracy of determining the parameters of the target.
