The British commissioned the fourth Astute-type submarine. Today it is the most modern type of submarines in the arsenal of the Royal Navy.
The submarine HMS Audacious was officially commissioned on September 23, during a ceremony at the Clyde Naval Base in Scotland. The submarine was laid down on March 24, 2009 and launched on April 28, 2017. This is the fourth ship of the Astute type.
Multi-purpose boats of the Astute type are the most modern submarines of the British fleet. The lead boat was commissioned in 2010. The third ship began operating in 2016.
The Astute-type submarine has a displacement (underwater) of 7800 tons. The length of the ship is the largest (according to KVL) - 97 meters. The crew consists of 98 people. The submarine has six 533-mm bow torpedo tubes. Astute can use, in particular, Tomahawk cruise missiles.
Recall that in the summer, a new Russian submarine K-573 "Novosibirsk"entered the factory sea trials. If the plans do not change, it will be transferred to the fleet at the end of the year.
Novosibirsk became the third multi-purpose nuclear submarine of the project 885. The second such boat was put into operation in May.
