Ekaterinburg. September 16. INTERFAX-The Russian military used Su-25SM attack aircraft in a missile launch exercise in Kyrgyzstan, the maneuvers took place against the background of the difficult situation in Afghanistan.
"10 aircraft and over 400 military personnel were involved in the exercise, including from the flight management group, ground and airfield technical support, communications, security and fire brigade units," the press service of the Central Military District reported.
During the exercise, the crews of Su-25SM attack aircraft of the Russian Kant air base in Kyrgyzstan destroyed objects of a conditional enemy at the Edelweiss mountain aviation range in the Issyk-Kul region.
The pilots of the Su-25SM practiced striking ground targets on the move and from a re-approach with unguided S-8 aviation missiles, the Central Military District reported. According to the military, the pilots worked out maneuvers of avoiding air defense means and shooting false thermal targets.
"Russian pilots carry out flights and the use of means of aviation destruction strictly according to an agreement with the military department of the Kyrgyz Republic," the Central Military District said in a statement.
The Su-25 is designed to destroy small-sized mobile and stationary ground objects, as well as low-speed air targets.
