MOSCOW, 16 Sep-RIA Novosti. The Northern Fleet conducted six missile firings during the recently completed large-scale Arctic exercises, the press service of the SF told reporters on Thursday.
"During the practical actions of the completed exercise with the Arctic expeditionary group, six sea-and land-based cruise missiles were fired at the Northern Fleet," the fleet said.
According to the press service, the firing of cruise missiles "Granit" was carried out by the nuclear missile cruiser "Peter the Great" and the nuclear submarine "Eagle", the anti-ship missiles "Vulkan" and "Mosquito" - the cruiser "Marshal Ustinov" and the destroyer "Admiral Ushakov", and the coastal complexes "Bal" and "Bastion" fired at sea targets from the Sredny Peninsula and the Arctic island of Alexandra Land.
Practical actions during the exercises were practiced near the Franz Josef Land archipelago, in the waters of the Barents and Kara Seas, as well as the Laptev Sea near the Novosibirsk Islands.
Up to 8,000 personnel, about 800 units of combat and special equipment were involved in the maneuvers, including about 40 tanks, up to 460 armored combat vehicles, up to 240 units of guns, mortars and multiple rocket launchers, up to 120 aircraft, up to 50 ships and support vessels.
Submarines and surface ships, including the flagship "Peter the Great", as well as units of the formations of the Army Corps of the Northern Fleet involved in the exercises, returned to their bases. "Several ships remained at sea, working out planned tasks of combat training and carrying combat duty," the press service of the fleet said.
