Parts of Russian floating nuclear power plants will be built at the Wison (Nantong) Heavy Industry Co Ltd. shipyard in Nantong. A Chinese manufacturer has won a competition for the construction of two nuclear power plant buildings for the needs of the Baim Mining and Processing Plant. The Chinese shipyard offered the lowest price, Kommersant reports .
Rosatom held a competition only among Asian shipyards. The winner offered to fulfill the order for $ 226 million. The finished products must be delivered to Russia by February 2024. After that, reactors and turbines will be installed in the buildings at the Russian Baltzavod, the publication emphasizes.
According to analysts, the contract was transferred to China in order to reduce the cost of the project and meet the construction deadlines. Thus, the contract value is almost a third lower than the maximum auction value, which exceeded the amount of $ 325 million.
In total, it is planned to build four floating power units (PEB) on RITM-200 reactors for the Baim Plant. The capacity of each PEB will be about 100 megawatts.
In August, the deputy head of Rosatom, Vyacheslav Ruksha, noted that the Baltzavod is loaded with the construction of four icebreakers, which does not allow for additional projects. Nevertheless, the third and fourth buildings of the PEB will be built in Russia.
In July, the Roscosmos enterprise proposed to build a nuclear power plant on Mars. It is believed that the station will be able to deliver a nuclear tug "Zeus"to the orbit of the Red Planet. After that, the station will be dropped to the surface of Mars with a parachute.
