Ekaterinburg. September 16. INTERFAX-The 201st Russian military base stationed in Tajikistan will receive upgraded T-72B3M tanks with improved maneuverability and crew protection.
"These are T-72B3M tanks with improved combat characteristics, "the press service of the Central Military District (CVO) told Interfax on Thursday.
On September 10, the head of the armored vehicle service of the Central Military District, Hanif Beglov, said that the Russian military base in Tajikistan will receive 30 modern tanks by the end of the year. They will replace the combat vehicles of earlier modifications of the tank battalion of the base.
The T-72B3M is one of the new products that was demonstrated in 2018 at the military-technical forum "Army". This is a deeply upgraded version of the T-72 main battle tank.
The T-72B3M is equipped with a new diesel engine with a capacity of 1130 hp, additional protection of the turret, side projections and bottom. The car is equipped with modern all-day fire control systems, digital communication tools and a number of other new systems.
Against the background of the coming to power in Afghanistan of the Taliban movement (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation), the Russian military reported on strengthening the base in Tajikistan with new weapons.
On August 24, the Central Military District announced the strengthening of the Russian military base in Tajikistan with anti-tank missile systems (ATGMs) "Kornet".
Earlier in August, the Central Military District reported that the base in Tajikistan received portable anti-aircraft missile systems "Verba", new Kalashnikov AK-12 assault rifles, modern sniper rifles and flamethrowers.
On July 21, it became known about the decision of the Russian military to strengthen the base in Tajikistan with 17 modern BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles.
In 2020, the base received about 20 units of new and modernized equipment, including Mi-8-MTV5-1 transport and combat helicopters, upgraded BMP-2M infantry fighting vehicles, the press service of the Central Military District reported in January.
As Interfax reported, at the end of 2019, the Russian military strengthened the air defense of the 201st base in Tajikistan with long-range air defense systems. The S-300PS anti-aircraft missile systems division (Almaz-Antey Concern of East Kazakhstan Region JSC) has taken up combat duty.
