The 80K6KS1 "Phoenix-1" radar detection station will become part of the Ukrainian Buk-M1 anti-aircraft missile systems (SAMs). The new station has been adopted by the Ukrainian armed forces, Defense Express reports .
The development of the state-owned enterprise "Scientific and Production Complex "Iskra "" was created as part of the modernization of the 79K6 Pelican radar station (radar). The detection station will be part of the Buk-M1 anti-aircraft missile system. According to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Andriy Taran, the new station will increase the effectiveness of the use of air defense systems.
Taran added that the Phoenix-1 will automatically " identify and determine the nationality, classes and types of air objects, as well as locate sources of active noise interference."
Defense Express assures that the 80K6X1 station differs from the previous model by a greater detection range, accuracy of operation and speed of information processing compared to previous models. Thus, the maximum target detection range of the Pelican station is 350 kilometers.
The Buk-M1 air defense system is a modernization of the Soviet Buk complex. The complex was adopted in 1979. The Ukrainian military is armed with more than 70 Buk-M1 complexes.
Earlier, the authors of the publication Politico suggested that Ukraine could receive an Israeli anti-missile defense system (ABM) "Iron Dome". This is due to an amendment to the US Defense Bill for 2022, which indicates the need to supply missile defense systems to Ukraine.
