Moscow. September 15. INTERFAX-AVN-The Russian Northern Fleet on Wednesday began to return troops from maneuvers in the Arctic zone, which involved about 8 thousand military personnel, about 50 ships, 120 aircraft and helicopters.
"Today, the forces and troops of the Northern Fleet operating in the Arctic as part of an exercise with the Arctic expeditionary group have begun the phase of folding," the press service of the Northern Fleet of the Russian Federation reported.
"The personnel of the fleet forces and troops who participated in the exercise of the Arctic expeditionary group, with their practical actions, confidently proved their readiness to solve the tasks of defending the Arctic territories of Russia, ensuring military security and maritime economic activity of the Russian Federation in the Arctic," said Alexander Moiseev, Commander of the Northern Fleet, summing up the preliminary results of the maneuvers.
According to the press service of the fleet, practical actions during the exercises took place at the training grounds of the Murmansk Region, in the waters of the Barents and Kara Seas, the Laptev Sea near the Novosibirsk Islands, the Franz Josef Land archipelago, as well as in the Krasnoyarsk Territory near the port of Dudinka on the Yenisei River.
"Up to 8 thousand military personnel, about 800 units of combat and special equipment, about 120 aircraft and up to 50 warships and support vessels were involved in the exercise," the Northern Fleet said.
Earlier on Wednesday, the press service of the fleet reported that the United States, Britain, Norway and Finland sent ships and aircraft to monitor the exercises of the Russian Federation in the Arctic.
