In Russia, it is proposed to use unmanned aerial vehicles for search and rescue at sea. They can deliver additional rescue equipment to the shipwreck site. Drones get on the route faster and are controlled from the shore.
This is reported by the newspaper "Krasnaya Zvezda". And he gives examples when people died because of untimely help. The last of them happened at the end of last year. In the Barents Sea, the fishing trawler Onega sank in a strong storm and frost, killing 17 people. They had life-saving equipment, but the fishermen could not use them, they were washed into the sea.
Therefore, the newspaper writes, drones can take on the function of rescuers. When approaching the crash site, they will transmit a television image from the accident site to the control center, drop a self-propelled floating device with a raft and a radio relay balloon to a given point.
The self-propelled floating device is equipped with a light signal and a loudspeaker. People will receive information and moral support. The balloon itself, after landing, is filled with gas and rises to a height that is regulated by the cable connecting it to the floating anchor. Using a radio repeater and a video device, he performs remote control of the self-propelled floating vehicle and the rescue process.
By the way, the method of delivery of the rescue vehicle has already received a patent. The project was presented at the XXIII Moscow International Salon of Inventions and Innovative Technologies "Archimedes-2020". There he was awarded a silver medal and included in the Rospatent database.
