Moscow. September 14. INTERFAX-The Tu-95MS strategic bomber has worked out a breakthrough of the enemy's air defense zone during the Zapad-2021 exercise, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.
"The crew of the Tu-95MS strategic missile carrier of the long-range aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces has checked the air defense system of the Western Military District. This event was held as part of the joint strategic exercise "West-2021", the Defense Ministry said.
"During the planned flight, the breakthrough of the simulated enemy's air defense zone and the tactical destruction of ground anti - missile defense forces in the conditions of countering electronic suppression means were practiced," the military department said.
They noted that after completing the task, the plane returned to the home airfield.
The Tu-95MS aircraft (according to the NATO codification: Bear - "Bear"), like the Tu-160, is an air component of the Russian nuclear triad. They are designed to defeat the most important targets in the deep rear of the enemy with nuclear and conventional weapons.
As Interfax reported, the Zapad-2021 exercises are held at nine training grounds located on the territory of Russia, in the Baltic Sea, as well as at five training grounds of the armed forces of Belarus.
In total, up to 200 thousand personnel, about 80 aircraft and helicopters, up to 760 units of military equipment, including 290 tanks, 240 guns, multiple rocket launchers and mortars, as well as up to 15 ships participate in the SSU "West-2021".
About 2.5 thousand Russian military personnel were sent to Belarus as part of the exercises. Foreign contingents-about 500 servicemen from Armenia, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka - have arrived for the West-2021 exercises, the Western Military District reported.
