Moscow. June 13. INTERFAX - Within the framework of the joint strategic exercise "West-2021" in the Baltic Sea, the crews of the corvettes "Steregushchy", "Stoyky" and the patrol ship "Yaroslav the Wise" successfully fulfilled the tasks of repelling attacks by means of an air attack of a conditional enemy and inflicted an artillery strike on sea and coastal targets, the press service of the Western Military District reports.
"During the departure to the sea, the crews of the corvettes "Stoyky", "Steregushchy", the patrol ship "Yaroslav the Wise" in the sea ranges of the Baltic Fleet (BF) successfully carried out a set of measures to repel attacks by enemy air attack means," the message says.
According to the plan of the exercise, the fleet intelligence means recorded a mass take-off of a conditional enemy aircraft with the aim of destroying a group of ships of the Baltic Fleet located in one of the Baltic Sea regions. The data on them were promptly transmitted to the ships.
The role of a conditional enemy was played by front-line Su-24 bombers and Ka-27 anti-submarine helicopters of the naval aviation of the fleet, simulating high-speed and low-flying air targets.
Electronic warfare equipment was activated on the ships and active and passive interference was set up. When the targets were approaching the firing line, the crews of the ships simultaneously performed practical firing from the AK-630 and A-190 ship complexes, during which the aircraft of the conditional enemy was destroyed.
The joint Strategic Exercise (SSU) of the armed forces of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus takes place every two years in accordance with the decision taken by the heads of the two states.
The Zapad-2021 exercise is the final stage of joint training of the armed forces of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation this year.
The practical actions of the troops (forces) take place in the period from 10 to 16 September 2021 at nine training grounds located on the territory of the Russian Federation, in the Baltic Sea, as well as at five training grounds of the armed forces of the Republic of Belarus.
In total, up to 200 thousand personnel, about 80 aircraft and helicopters, up to 760 units of military equipment, including 290 tanks, 240 guns, multiple rocket launchers and mortars, as well as up to 15 ships take part in the SSU "West-2021" on the territory of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus.
