British analysts have noticed the Russian oceanographic research vessel "Yantar". H. I. Sutton, an open source intelligence specialist, drew attention to the ship near the territorial waters of Ireland. The " spy " ship can be used for cutting underwater cables and reconnaissance missions, according to the UK Defense Journal.
The authors of the portal note that earlier representatives of the US Navy (Navy) announced the possibility of the Yantar ship to disrupt underwater communications. Underwater vehicles placed on the ship are capable of "breaking cables" at a depth of up to 6000 meters, writes the UK Defense Journal.
In turn, representatives of the Irish Naval Service (Navy) confirmed that they are aware of the Russian ship. The passage of the Yantar vessel complies with the norms of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, the ministry concluded.
The research vessel "Yantar" of the project 22010 "Kruis" was transferred to the Russian Navy in 2015. "Yantar" is designed to study the thickness of the World Ocean and its bottom. The ship can also be used for search missions. The ship can carry autonomous deep-sea vehicles of the project 16810 " Rus "and 16811 "Consul". These devices allow you to observe objects on the seabed, perform deep-sea work using a manipulator, and lift up to 200 kilograms of cargo to the surface.
Earlier, the authors of the Norwegian publication Resett told about the use of Russian strategic drones "Poseidon". The device will be able to develop high speed at great depth. The publication believes that "Poseidon" can change the idea of strategic weapons.
