STRUGI KRASNYE (Pskov region), 12 Sep-RIA Novosti. The Russian airborne forces during the exercise "West-2021" for the first time used mounted fire from the BMD-4M to destroy the control points of enemy drones, the Defense Ministry reported.

Shooting from closed positions is the standard method of firing for self-propelled artillery installations. The gunners do not see the enemy, the projectile flies in a canopy at the coordinates set by intelligence, but such tactics have not been used for BMD before.

"At the Strugi Krasnye training ground, during the Zapad exercises, the paratroopers worked out a new element of tactical combat: during the practical actions, the paratroopers performed a fire defeat of a conditional enemy from closed firing positions from a new generation of BMD-4M combat vehicles," the department noted.

At the same time, intelligence for combat vehicles was transmitted by drones of paratroopers of the Orlan type.

The BMD-4M is equipped with a 100-mm 2A70 cannon, which allows firing a high-explosive shell at a maximum range of up to 6.5 kilometers.

In addition, the paratroopers made a 100-kilometer march to the training ground, overcoming areas of infected terrain and mine-explosive barriers. They repelled an attack by a group of illegal armed formations of a conditional enemy with fire from the armament of BMD-4M vehicles, armored personnel carriers "Shell" and from small arms. Then, at the training ground, the troops raided the rear of the "militants", blocked and destroyed their bases.

Joint strategic exercises of Moscow and Minsk are held every two years. Zapad-2021 is the final stage of military training this year. The maneuvers are held from September 10 to 16 at nine training grounds on the territory of Russia and in the Baltic Sea, as well as at five training grounds in Belarus.

In total, up to 200 thousand personnel, about 80 aircraft and helicopters, up to 760 units of military equipment, including 290 tanks, 240 guns, multiple rocket launchers and mortars, as well as up to 15 ships will participate in them.

The troops and the command will return to the points of permanent deployment until mid-October.
