The Research Institute of Steel conducted tests of the dynamic protection "Relict" installed in modern T-72B3, T-80BVM and T-90M "Breakthrough". Experts have found out whether it will work on the shot of a 12.7-by-108-millimeter bullet. The experiment was captured on a video published by the Zvezda TV channel.
With the help of a special gun and a stand, specialists checked the "Relic" for a false alarm. The footage shows that a large-caliber cartridge pierced the protection plate, but it did not work on the explosion, as it would have been when an anti-tank projectile was approaching.
"Absolutely flat hole. The element did not even move, it did not move from its place. The most important thing is that we did not have any ignition, much less detonation, during this experience, "explained Nikolai Dorokhov, head of the dynamic Protection department at the Research Institute of Steel.
Earlier, the video [...] showed tests of the newest two-link armored personnel carrier DT-BTR, created for the natural and climatic conditions of the Arctic, Siberia and the Far East. Tests of tracked snow-and-mud vehicles were held at the 38th Research and Testing Institute of Armored Weapons and Equipment near Moscow (38 NIII BTT, Kubinka). The video showed the explosion of an armored personnel carrier and a napalm test — how safe the crew can feel when the enemy uses a combustible substance. The DT-BTR passed all these tests successfully.
