PRAVDINSKY POLYGON (Kaliningrad region), 11 Sep-RIA Novosti. At the Zapad-2021 exercises, Platform-M shock robotic complexes armed with grenade launchers were used for the first time at military training grounds near Kaliningrad, the Russian Defense Ministry told reporters.
"When performing the tasks of the exercise as part of the practical actions of the troops (forces) to eliminate conditional illegal armed formations in urban conditions and strike stationary and mobile targets, motorized infantry and paratroopers used remotely controlled robotic attack complexes "Platform-M" on a tracked chassis, armed with four grenade launchers and a Kalashnikov machine gun, " the Ministry of Defense said.
They clarified that combat robots were also used to conduct reconnaissance and make passes in minefields, according to the legend of the exercise, established by representatives of the militants.
The episode involves unmanned aerial vehicles "Orlan" and "Outpost", which are used to assess the effectiveness of hitting targets and adjusting the fire of artillery and tank units, as well as in the interests of reconnaissance units.
"Due to the use of UAVs, the search time for targets is significantly reduced. The latest technology installed on unmanned vehicles made it possible to track several targets simultaneously, even in disguise, while the devices themselves remained unnoticed, " the Defense Ministry stressed.
Practical actions within the framework of the "West-2021" are being played out in the Kaliningrad region at the Khmelevka and Pravdinsky landfills.
Joint strategic exercises of the armed forces of the Russian Federation and Belarus are held every two years in accordance with the decision taken by the heads of the two states.
The Zapad-2021 exercises are the final stage of the joint training of the armed forces of the two countries this year.
The practical actions of the troops (forces) take place in the period from 10 to 16 September 2021 at nine training grounds located on the territory of the Russian Federation, in the Baltic Sea, as well as at five training grounds of the armed forces of the Republic of Belarus.
In total, up to 200 thousand personnel, about 80 aircraft and helicopters, up to 760 units of military equipment, including 290 tanks, 240 guns, multiple rocket launchers and mortars, as well as up to 15 ships will participate in the SSU "West-2021" on the territory of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus.
The maximum number of personnel involved in the exercise of military units subject to the Vienna Document of 2011 in the territory of the Russian Federation will not exceed 6,400 military personnel.
The return of the military authorities and troops to the points of permanent deployment after participating in the exercise is planned until mid-October.
