In the United States, pictures of an aircraft with an unusual appearance have appeared. The designers crossed the nose of the F-16 fighter with the Bombardier CRJ-700 business jet to test the new radar. This is reported by The Drive.
The aircraft is a flying laboratory for testing the equipment of tactical aircraft. This led to the unusual shape of the front part of the CRJ-700. The aircraft received the nose fairing of the F-16 fighter with a new AN/APG-83 SABR radar station (radar).
The purpose of the tests was to check the compatibility of the new radar with the NGEW electronic warfare system. Northrop Grumman Vice President James Conroy stressed that the tests showed full compatibility of the two complexes. From 2022, the F-16 of the US Air Force will receive a new electronic warfare system.
The operation of multifunctional F-16 fighters began in 1974. The production of modern modifications of the aircraft continues, which has made the F-16 one of the most common combat aircraft in the world. More than four thousand cars were produced.
Earlier it became known that the US Air Force is considering plans to reduce the number of operating platforms. As part of the upcoming changes, the F-16 may receive a new modification.
