ST. PETERSBURG, September 9. /TASS/. The Russian Navy plans to order 10 more mine defense ships of the 12700 project. This was announced to journalists on Thursday by the commander-in-chief of the Navy Nikolai Evmenov after the laying ceremony of the ninth ship of the Afanasy Ivannikov project, which was held at the Sredne-Nevsky Shipyard.
"The series is very good, reliable. I have already said that these are the most advanced technologies in the world. < ... > This sea minesweeper has proved to be very good, reliable, and has great survivability. Moreover, we have already seen in practice how it behaves. < ... > Therefore, we are now finishing one series and, probably, you have heard that according to the results of the Army-2021 forum, there will be another order for 10 of the same minesweepers, "he said.
The project 12700 "Alexandrite" was developed by the Central Marine Design Bureau "Almaz". The ships belong to a new generation of minesweeping forces and are designed to combat sea mines, which can be detected both in the water of marine waters and in the sea soil, without entering the danger zone. To combat mines, ships can use various types of trawls, as well as remote-controlled and autonomous uninhabited underwater vehicles.
The ships of this project have a unique, the largest in the world hull made of monolithic fiberglass, which has high strength, their service life is unlimited in compliance with the operating standards.
